How to use Bloomee
  1. Set your location. Click the world map, or press "Use my location". Scroll, pinch or use + and − to zoom; drag to move around when zoomed in. Living in the mountains? Move the altitude slider.
  2. Read the wheel. Each ring is one plant. The dark dot is when to plant or sow, the grey line is growing time, and the coloured band is when it blooms or can be picked. The red line is today.
  3. Pick what to show. Choose Flowers, Herbs, Veg & fruit or Everything, and untick plants you don't grow. Switch to Indoors for windowsill timings.
  4. Click a ring or a name for care notes and timings for your spot. Plants that won't cope with your climate are greyed out.
  5. Know your own frost dates? Double-click the location text under the map to set them by hand.
  6. Share it. The page address updates with your location, so you can bookmark it or send it to a friend.

When to plant balcony flowers, herbs and vegetables

Bloomee is a free planting calendar for 44 balcony plants that works anywhere in the world, with no sign-up and no ZIP code. Pick your spot on the map and it shows when to sow or plant, when each plant grows, and when it blooms or can be picked. Frost dates are estimated from latitude and altitude; if you know your own, double-click the location text under the map to set them by hand.

Flowers: primula, celosia, marigolds, zinnia, lavender, heather, cosmos, mini rose, mums, dahlia, nasturtium, petunias and geraniums, begonia, ornamental kale, hardy cyclamen, pansies, winter heath, hellebore, daffodils and tulips, hyacinth, snowdrops and crocus.

Herbs: rosemary, chives, thyme, sage, oregano, lemon balm, mint, parsley, dill, coriander, basil.

Vegetables and fruit: chillies, cherry tomatoes, spinach, radishes, lettuce, peas, strawberries, blueberries, spring onions, balcony cucumbers, dwarf beans, garlic.
